There was quite a discussion on the Dallas Metropolis Forum regarding Stoneleigh's "tallest" hotel claim. For everyone who glanced over the modifier "residential" on the fact sheet, allow me to clarify the distinction between the Stoneleigh and the Adolphus. The Stoneleigh was the first (and therefore tallest) apartment hotel west of the Mississippi - originally designed and equipped to provide luxury family apartment suites with hotel amenities for long-term residency. (The Adolphus has always been a transient-guest hospitality operation.) When Stewart took over in the '30s, the operation shifted to more of a guest hotel. Still, through the decades, many people (such as Margo Jones) took up long-term residency at the Stoneleigh.
